Being Feminine Episode1

What do you understand by the word femininity or what does it mean to be feminine?

Alli Richard:  Feminism, major destroyer of 21st century marriages.
Feminist believe men and women should be treated equally, which is true as far as the society is concerned. But rubbing it into marriage makes it go overboard.

Rita Ajiwa Goya:  what are the true characteristics of being feminine?

Alli Richard:  Don’t get it twisted, feminine is the opposite sex of masculine.

OminimaKpe:  Alli Richard what should be the benchmark to feminism, at what point should it not be included in marriages??

Alli Richard: Ominima kpe  it’s simple, know your limits and maintain your lane. When the manager of a company decides to go head to head with the CEO, disaster looms

OminimaKpeAlli Richard the question is still pending

Sarah Omene: the advocacy of women’s rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes. It simply fights for female whose voices are lost in the society. Everybody should be treated equally and Gender or sex should never be a barrier to someone’s career, marital status, spiritual status (i.e.. service to God). choice of partner and all things been equal. You still have to respect everyone n treat them right just the way you want to be treated… Even some men are feminist. So it’s not just a one way thing.

The Perspective of Bob Barnes on Femininity/ Being Feminine

The apostle Peter offered this perspective on femininity: ‘’let not your adornment be merely external… but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God’’ (1 Peter 3:3-4)

According to Bob Barnes in His book ‘’What Makes a Man Feel Loved’’, feminine is not a particular style, form, dress or interior decorating. Feminine encompasses an infinite variety of physical appearances. It is a softness, gentleness and graciousness that men don’t have. Bob opine that a woman can be the president of a corporation or be a tough and aggressive participant in the business world and still be feminine. To him, feminine also means that a woman has a sense of who she is apart from what she does. She nurtures a strong spirituality, and manifests the fruits of the spirit in every aspect of her life (see Galatians 5:22.23).

Femininity also brings to mind a deep concern for her husband and children, the ability to submit to her husband when appropriate (Ephesians 5:22), and the maternal awareness that she is raising not only her children but generations to come. A truly feminine woman understands the mystique of being a godly wife and mother.

A gentle and quiet spirit, tranquillity, being at peace, sharing the fruit of the spirit with people. These qualities are a direct result of a woman’s relationship with God. When a woman is right with God, she doesn’t feel any need to prove herself. Confident in herself and aware of her God-given strengths, she doesn’t feel compel to use those strength to control other people. She enjoys an inner contentment that isn’t based on accomplishments, status, authority, power or other people’s opinions.

A woman who walks closely with God is free from aggressiveness, and the need to prove her worth. Although, she may be competitive and very energetic by temperament, she is affirmed not by other people but by her God. Such a woman ‘’opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue’’ (Proverbs 31:36) and her family is blessed. ‘’the heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life…. Her children rise up and bless her’’ (Proverbs 31:11,12,28).

A gracious feminine woman doesn’t try to attain greatness for herself, instead, she is an inspiration to her husband and helps him rise to his own greatness. She supports him unconditionally in his search for fulfilment and achievement and such a woman – one closely in tune with God – is indeed worthy of praise as she models godly values and high moral standards and truly reflects the feminine virtues of patience, silence, and faith. A woman’s gentle and quiet spirit makes her a blessing to the people around her.

Gentleness, patience and devotion to God -the components of godly femininity- are qualities that hold society together and provide hope for the future. History shows that as the woman goes, so goes the family. You give meaning and purpose to a home. You are the heartbeat, pumping vital blood into the family system by setting the spirit and tones of the home. Your softer, more feminine qualities help set the atmosphere of the home. You help your husband and children establish and live by moral standards.

The femininity Bob Barnes has described above teaches, inspires, and civilises. It brings glory to God and hope to His world. And, on a less tangible and practical level, such femininity also has a real mystique about it – but many women don’t capitalise on this. Their grandmothers – who were students of men and knew what made men tick and what made them ticked! – knew how their femininity affected men.
