‘’Character is the real foundation to all worthwhile success’’ – John Hays Hammond
‘’Character is what we do when we think no one is looking’’ – H Jackson Brown Jr.
I want to have a good character, but some of my friends laugh at me for my ‘clean living’
1 Corinthians 15:33 don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for ‘’bad company corrupt good character’’.
If our friends’ influence keeps us from having good character, the answer is to get different friends who share godly values. All the times, the reason why most ungodly people laugh at people living clean is because they are envious and feel inferior. They make sure through their influence, the person becomes ungodly like them, and when they don’t succeed in making you like them, they begin to envy you and see you as arrogant and proud.
Can’t I work on my character when I get older?
1 Timothy 4:12 Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you teach, in the way you live, in your love, in your faith, and your purity.
Godly character is simply a reflection of who we are. If you aren’t interested in developing godly character now, you won’t be interested in it later.
What attributes are found in godly character?
Ezekiel 18: 5-9 suppose a certain man is just and does what is lawful and right, and he has not feasted in the mountains before Israel’s idols or worship them. And suppose he does not commit adultery….suppose he is a merciful creditor…and does not rob the poor but instead gives food to the hungry and provides clothes for people in need. And suppose he grants loans without interest, stays away from injustice, is honest and fair when judging others, and faithfully obeys my laws and regulations. Anyone who does these things is just and will surely live, says the sovereign Lord.
Godly character involves treating others with justice. Being at peace with all men if possible, doing what is right regardless of what people say. Stand up for those who are oppressed.
Galatians 5:22 when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruits in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Godly character includes all of the fruit of the spirit as stated in Galatians 5:22.
How can I develop my character?
Deuteronomy 8:2 Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would really obey his commands.
James 1:4 so let your endurance grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.
We are not born with godly character, it is developed. We develop our character by facing daily challenges and choosing wisely. We develop our character also by overcoming temptations and growing mature everyday even despite the challenges we face. Challenges are not meant to break us but to make us mature, learn and strong.
PROMISES FROM GOD: Galatians 5: 22-23 When the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruits in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
