PLANNING FOR MARRIAGE (2) By Faith Oyedepo

Peace and blessings, in Jesus’ name! Last week, I began by showing you the essence of planning and some areas to plan for before marriage. Today, we shall be considering some pre-requisites for planning.

Maturity

Maturity is defined as the quality of behaving mentally and emotionally like an adult. Maturity is not just in age, although it is part of it, but it is spiritual, emotional, physical, etc., disposition. Marriage is for men and women, not boys and girls. There is the need for maturity before anyone starts planning for marriage. If you are not mature enough to be a parent, then you are not mature enough for marriage. For instance, if your parents are still dictating to you, then you are not qualified to parent anyone and you are not mature enough for marriage. One that is mature for marriage should be able to assume responsibilities for his actions and should be able to ensure the welfare of his mate and children.

Modesty

In planning for the marriage ceremony, especially with regards to entertainment and dresses, modesty is required. All things should be done to the glory of the Lord. The Bible says: Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31). When you seek that His name be glorified, you will discover that He too will get Himself concerned about the affairs of your life.

Wisdom

Wisdom is very vital for effective planning. It will help you make the right choices. If you plan properly, you will avoid incurring debts that could affect the well-being of your new home. It is wisdom to know how many guests to invite, how much food to cook, what kind of clothes to buy, how much to spend on the ceremony and so on. Wisdom must be your principal tool if you desire success in marriage.

Don’t ever borrow! My husband often says, if you can think enough, what you have is enough. So, your problem is not lack of finances but lack of adequate thinking. What you have is enough if you think enough! Don’t borrow for your wedding ceremony so that you don’t become a servant (Proverbs 22:7). How would you feel when you see the person you borrowed from at your wedding? Very uncomfortable, certainly! What will be your Christian testimony? Know that your lender will always feel that without him your wedding would never have held? In effect, instead of God taking all the glory, your lender would do! How expensive a wedding is has nothing to do with the success of the marriage.

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the power of God. He is an Enabler. For a marriage to be successful, it requires physical stamina, love, consideration, emotional stability and objective reasoning which comes from the Holy Spirit. You must, therefore, give the Holy Spirit the room to do His work. The Bible says: But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you… (Acts 1:8). The more you give Him room, the more He enables you.

However, a glorious marriage begins with Jesus in your life. If you will like to receive Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, please say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today as a sinner. I believe You died for my sins and rose on the third day.  Forgive me of my sins. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today”.

Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ name. Call or write and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org, and counselling@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
