WHY WE MAY NOT HAVE “CUBANA-LIKE” DISPLAY OF LAVISHNESS IN THE DELTA

Activities surrounding Obi Cubana mother’s burial have become a talking point in the last 3days or so and sparked debates about wealth v riches. The level of affluence on display in Oba, Anambra state is unprecedented in recent times. Over 400 cows and still counting. Coffin worth N30million, diamond bling estimated to worth more than N40m etc

Some are of the opinion that in Rivers State, we don’t have wealthy people only rich guys. Others are of the view that we do but they don’t flaunt it like the Anambrarians do.

It won’t be long for argument like, it’s stolen or ill gotten wealth to rent the air in defence for our people’s failure to understand that though, economy is the base structure but it ensures that more people are taken off the poverty ladder in a capitalist system whereas Politics being the superstructure and can alter the economic system, still can’t do without the base structure (economy). Therefore, no matter the amount diverted from the allocation, it still can’t equate the doings of those who are in running and thriving businesses. EFCC or not, some of them like Dangote, Otedola, Arthur Eze etc have thriving businesses and could afford to spend lavishly occasionally.

In Rivers State, Politics still dominates the economic system wherein, nearly everyone, including those who claim to be in business are heavily dependent on that scarce allocation. We hardly generate wealth therefore, may find it difficult to find such lavishness on display.
